• quitting smoking

      I have quitted smoking for 4 days now. oh yeah.I had smoked for 3 years.In that period i determine giving up smoking many times. Whereas it is failed for all kinds of sake.
  I will be nosmokinger for some days. And maybe i will keep on smoking on some day.
  

  No matter how long,It is a prideing thing.

  英语问路法走到哪里都不怕

  2008-03-20 14:36:37 2. You will stay on the street for a while until you hit the first traffic light. 你会走一会儿, 直到你遇到第一个红绿灯 有一次我开车老美坐我旁边, 他帮我指路就是这么说的. Stay for a while 通常指五到十分钟的时 间, 不会太久. 遇见某样东西, 可以用 hit 这个字, 如 hit the traffic light, hit the stop sign 等等. 而 traffic light 也有人说成 light, 或 stoplight. 5. Come down Hemphill Ave about five blocks. 由 Hemphill 街往下走约五个 blocks. 英文这个部份跟中文有异曲同工之妙喔. 我们会习惯地说, 往 \\\\"下\\\\" 走, 英文也会说come \\\\"down\\\\" 或是 get \\\\"down\\\\", 这里如果只说 Come Hemphill Ave. 听来是不是怪怪的? 至于 block 指的是一块一块的建筑, 外国人在指路时很喜欢用 block 作为计量的单位.

  6. You will see a BP gas station on your left. 在你的左手边你会看到一座 BP 加油站.     指路的时候除了路名之外, 明显的地标也是有帮助的. 通常你可以指出一些明显的建筑物或是加油站来帮助对方. 加油站的英文是 gas station, 有时会简称 station.     7. Keep going 50 yards before you come to a fork road. 继续走 50 码, 直到你走到一个三叉路口.     继续往下走可以用 keep going 这个字, 或是 continue straight 或是 keep straight 也很常用. Fork road 就是我们说的三叉路口. 那如果是丁字路口要怎么说? 你可以说, This road will dead end into 10th Street. 就可以表达出丁字路口的意思了.     8. Make a right, pass two stop signs and you will run into a Wal Mart. 向右转, 经过二个 Stop sign, 你就会遇到 Wal Mart.     有一次我去 Ohio, 由于事先的准备不够, 以致于从头迷路到最后. 有一次有一个老黑跟我报路用的就是 You’ll run into it! 意思就是, 我会遇到的. 他们也喜欢这么说, You can’t miss it! 就是说, 你绝不会错过的.     9. The post office is just right across the street of it. 邮局就在 Wal Mart的正对面.     个人觉的 Right across the street of it 是个很重要的片语, 加上 "right" across 表示出 "正" 对面的意思. 还有一个很常用的就是在什么什么的旁边, 这个要用 The office is next to it. It 代表之前已经提过的 Wal Mart, 如果之前没有提及, 这里也可以直接说成, across the street of Wal Mart.     10. Mr. Yang’s house is behind the post office. 杨先生的房子就在邮局后面.     有一次也是有一个老美路我问路, 由于那个地方不是很远, 我就用手指这那里说, It’s over there. 可是事实上那里是被一栋建筑物给挡住了, 所以老美就反问我, Behind this building? 所以我就知道我应该说成 It’s behind this building 会来得比较好些.

  　　“ cannot…… too…… ”结构表示“无论怎么……也不算过分”、“越……越好”、“要格外……”、“应该特别……”等意思。表示此意的结构有下列几种：

  　　1. cannot ＋动词＋ too ＋形容词或副词，例如：

  　　We cannot be too careful in doing experiments. 我们做实验时越仔细越好。

  　　You can never be strong enough. 强壮的身体有百利而无一害。

  　　Drinking water can never be pure enough. 饮用水越纯越好。

  　　5. cannot ＋动词＋ too many ＋可数名词 / too much ＋不可数名词，例如：

  　　I think it right that one cannot learn too much knowledge. 我认为一个人的知识愈多愈好。

  　　It is wrong to think that one cannot bear too many children. 认为一个人孩子生得愈多愈好是错误的。

  　　6. It is impossible （ difficult ） to…… too…… ＝ cannot……too…… ，例如：

  　　It is impossible to emphasize this point too much. （＝ One cannot emphasize this point too much. ）要特别强调这一点。

  　　与 cannot……too…… 相似的结构主要有：

  　　1. cannot help + doing ：该结构意为“禁不住做……”、“忍不住干……”，指“身不由己地去做某事”。例如：

  　　We could not help thinking when we saw the Great Wall in China.

  　　看到中国的长城，我们不禁浮想联翩。

  　　I couldn't help crying when I heard the bad news. 听到那不幸的消息，我忍不住大哭起来。

  　　“ cannot help but do sth. ”也表示“不得不、忍不住……”。例如：

  　　We could not help but walk from dawn to dusk. 我们不得不从黎明走到黄昏。

  　　Hearing the inspiring news， we couldn't help but cheer. 听到这个鼓舞人心的消息，我们不禁欢呼起来。

  　　2. cannot but do sth ：该结构表示“不得不……”。例如：

  　　I cannot but admire his courage. 我不得不钦佩他的勇气。

  　　I couldn't but laugh on reading such a funny joke. 读到如此滑稽的笑话，我忍不住笑了。

  　　在上面句式里，可以说 cannot 后面省略了 do anything .例如：

  　　The prisoner could not （ do anything ） but hand in his knife. 那个犯人不得不交出刀子。

  　　can but do sth. 表示“只得做某事”。例如：

  　　The boy made an apology to his teacher， so the teacher could but give up the idea of punishing him. 那男孩向老师道了歉，老师只得打消惩罚他的念头。

  　　类似这一结构的 cannot choose but to sth 也表示“不得不……”、“只得……”。例如：

  　　It rained hard， so they couldn't choose but stay at home. 雨下得很大，他们只得呆在家里。

  1．从句动作在主句动作前发生，只用 when。
  ①When he had finished his homework，he took a short rest．（finished先发生）当他完成作业后，他休息了一会儿。
  ②When I got to the airport，the guests had left．（got to后发生）当我赶到飞机场时，客人们已经离开了。
  2．从句动作和主句动作同时发生，且从句动作为延续性动词时，when，while，as都可使用。
  ①When ／While ／As we were dancing，a stranger came in．（dance为延续性动词）当我们跳舞时，一位陌生人走了进来。
  ②When ／While ／As she was making a phonecall，I was writing a letter．（make为延续性动词）当她在打电话时，我正在写信。
  3．在将来时从句中，常用when，且从句须用一般时代替将来时。
  ①You shall borrow the book when I have finished reading it．在我读完这本书后，你可以借阅。
  ②When the manager comes here for a visit next week，Ill talk with him about this．下周，经理来这参观时，我会和他谈谈此事。
  
  、when用于表示“一……就……”的句型中（指过去的事情）。
  sb．had hardly（＝scarcely） done sth．when．．．＝Hardly ／ Scarcely had sb．done sth．when．．．
  ①I had hardly ／scarcely closed my eyes when someone knocked at the door．＝Hardly ／ Scarcely had I closed my eyes when someone knocked at the door．我刚一闭上眼，就有人在敲门了。
  ②I had hardly ／scarcely entered my room when the telephone rang．＝Hardly ／Scarcely had I entered my room when the telephone rang．我刚一走进房门，电话就响了。
